Volunteering
Thank you for considering volunteering. Volunteers help to make this event possible and to keep the cost of attendance low for everyone. The main organizer of this event does not design this event to make a profit; the purpose of this event is to bring fusion to the community. With that in mind, please read the following regarding volunteering. Due to the fixed costs of running this event, no more than 10-15 positions are available for 100% reimbursement.
Volunteerism is what makes events like these possible. It is the policy or practice of volunteering one's time or talents for charitable, educational, or other worthwhile activities, especially in one's community. A volunteer is a person who chooses freely to do or offer to do something. Thank you for your support.
How It All Works
Full Payment In Advance
If you plan to attend the entire event, you MUST pay in full in advance. You will be reimbursed for only a portion of your admission when you volunteer. You will receive this reimbursement on the last day of the event based on the number of hours that you worked. If you cannot afford to pay in advance and it is absolutely necessary to work off the entire cost of admission in order to attend, you MUST make arrangements in advance (at least 30 days prior to the event no exceptions) with the Organizers and the Volunteer Coordinator.
Reimbursement
If you will be volunteering your time and require reimbursement, please do the following:
- Register;
- Pay in full in advance in the following method:
- Send one check for the maximum that you can afford to pay. This amount may not be less than $100 unless you have made advance arrangements prior to registration. We will cash this check immediately.
- Send a second check for the rest of the cost of attendance. Ideally, you will work off this amount before or during the event. At the end of the event, we will either destroy the second check or return it to you. If you have worked less than the amount required to destroy this check, we will cash the check and issue you the appropriate refund on the last day of the event.
Dances Only
If you cannot volunteer in advance and cannot afford to pay at least $100 toward your All Access admissions pass, then you may volunteer for dances only. To receive a Weekend Dance Pass, you must volunteer 4 hours, 2 hours of which are to be volunteered during the nightly dances, during the event. You must register and make arrangements with the Volunteer Coordinator in advance in order to select this option.
Coupon Incentive Program
In an effort to provide the community with more value, in addition to our nominal reimbursement (to thank our volunteers for their commitment), we offer the following coupon program.
NOTE: Coupons have no cash redemption value. If you choose not to use them, you cannot exchange them for money. These coupons are just extra value to you.
There are 5 Options:
- Just Want to Help: If you just want to volunteer your time because you love fusion, that's cool. Just let us know!
- 1-3 Hours Volunteer Work: You will receive one $15 off-the-dance coupon per hour that you work. So, you can work 3 hours and receive $45 in dance coupons. These may be used for you, or a friend. This is great if you want to volunteer during classes and not miss any part of the dance. By taking option 1, you will receive no cash reimbursement.
- 2 Hours Volunteer Work During a Dance: Work two hours during one of the nightly dances and receive a pass for the remainder of the dance or one of the subsequent dances for FREE. You must work BEFORE you receive your pass. This option makes it possible for you to only work nights and not have to give up any daytime hours.
- 4 Hours Volunteer Work: You will receive a Weekend Dance ONLY Pass (valued at $50 until Dec 21 or $75 at-the-door). This may be used for you, or a friend. By taking this option, you will receive no cash reimbursement. 2 of the 4 hours must be worked during one of the nightly dances.
- 4-10 Hours of Volunteer Work: If you have already paid for the event, but need to reduce your cost of attendance, this plan is good for you. You may choose cash-only reimbursement, or you can choose Option #2 or #4 for your first line of compensation. After that, you will be refunded $5 for every hour (up to 10 hours total) over your first 3 or 4 hours (if using Option #2 or #4). You will receive this refund on the last day of the event. This amount should equal your check deposit (Check (b) in the payment breakdown).
Working Off The Entire Cost of Attendance
There are a limited number of full passes which can be given during the event. 10-15 passes, subject to the discretion of the Organizers, will be given to those requesting such passes in a timely manner. You must register and make arrangements for a free pass on or before November 1, 2009. Note: Meeting this deadline when registering does not guarantee the availability of a full pass; the earlier you make arrangements to work off a pass, the better chance you have of receiving that pass.
FREE All-Access Passes will be awarded to people willing to:
- clean up every night,
- open every morning,
- run the registration desk each day during high-traffic times,
- open for each late night venue, or
- pick up food for various meals throughout the event (locals only for this option, please).
Each of these options entails approximately 9 hours of work at key times. Please do not enter into this option lightly.
FREE Workshop-Only Passes will be awarded to people willing to work a total of 8 hours. 2 of the 8 hours will need to be worked during the class periods.
